I’m with the band (Singing Utah, #45)

I first sang with a live band over ten years ago and was excited to do it again, so I made the trip to Sandy, Utah for that very reason. It was amazing. I’ve tried to figure out what to say about it, and I just can’t. Live band karaoke is just different; the energy is amazing, the show overall incredible. I’m sure a lot of that has to do with This Is YOUR Band, the performers who keep you and the whole night going. They are fun, make you feel super comfortable with their banter, and fist bump you on your way off the stage. I really felt like a musician for a few minutes. I felt like I was a part of something, not just getting up to sing to people who may or may not be listening, only to take a seat when I was done. Here, I was a member of a team.

Live band begs for rock & roll and blues, and I chose my songs accordingly. I can’t imagine doing ballads unless I had the chance to sing all night long. I wish I did.

You can listen to me sing Journey if you want.

Fun times!

Fun fact: The sound guy told me that Utah was the 45th state to enter the union, and it was also the 45th state I sang in. I believe this is the only time I sang a state in order it became part of the US.

The basics:

  • Location: Club 90, Sandy, Utah
  • Miles traveled: 273
  • Songs sung: Separate Ways (Journey), I’m the Only One (Melissa Etheridge — first time ever singing that one!).
